Gabriel\nFaur\u00e9 stands as the central figure of this program. A professor at the Paris Conservatoire,\nhe taught Maurice Ravel and later appointed Claude Debussy to the institution\u2019s governing\nboard.<\/p>\n<p>Faur\u00e9\u2019s work is often divided into two periods. This quartet belongs to his earlier phase,\nwhich can be described as late Romanticism\u2014akin to the painting of \u00c9douard Manet, who\nhelped open the path toward Impressionism. Debussy and Ravel, though frequently\nlabeled as Impressionist composers, firmly rejected this comparison, insisting that their\nmusic should not be directly associated with painting.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, today, it is difficult not to dream beyond Impressionism\u2014toward the worlds of\nPablo Picasso, Paul Klee, or Wassily Kandinsky.
